The barrel that came with my A is only OK. I prefer it has a slight reverse
taper, but not as much as I wanted. It also had the time honored "flat throat
F, too sharp clarion C" problem.

KlarAnn quotes:

<< (Walter said) I finally made my own barrel for my A clarinet, with the
same
Moennig reverse cone taper (as my Bb), but approx .004 less diameter in the
bore. This kept the response the same, the tone "Moennig barrel like" and
the pitch was much, much better. I'm trying right now to duplicate the same
barrel on my lathe, using cocobolo and African Blackwood.>>

Klarann asks: <<And is this going to also be a ClarinetXpress product? >>

Well, Ann, this is the direction in which I find myself going. Just replacing
a mouthpiece is often not enough to solve a particular problem. Only by
replacing a MATCHED mouthpiece and barrel can some difficult tuning problems
be re-mediated.

The work making a clarinet barrel from scratch on a lathe is very time
consuming and very meticulous. I'll let you know after I make a dozen or so
more.
