Dear Clark,
I just LOVE your mouthpiece! I can't decide between the 37 or the
43, but I am leaning toward the 37 for no reason whatsoever. As many of
you know, I have played on Vandoren 5 RV Lyre mouthpieces for many
years, and before that, a 5 RV, and before that, a Chicago Kasper 13
until it was stolen.
Clark, I like your mouthpiece BETTER than my Vandoren, because I
can get a fatter tone without having so sacrifice my "ring", which is so
important to me. I have always felt some "stuffiness" problems with my
Vandoren mouthpieces, and I figured it was old age (mine) or not enough
practice. I really like the way that your moupiece resonates, all
through the low -- middle -- and altissimo ranges, both with slurring
and staccato, with no "choking off" of the air or squeeking problems
when I "go for it". I noticed that I had to loosen up my Vandoren
Optimum Ligature to get it to fit. Maybe your chamber is a bit larger
than Vandorens. I don't know anything at all about the science or
mathematics of mouthpieces, but yours works for me. I am going down to
my studio to see if I can use my Vandoren 3 1/2 reeds. I have been using
RICO Evolution #3 lately because I'm fed up with my Vandorens.
Good luck to you, Clark. I wrote this letter to the list instead of to
you privately because I felt that your mouthpiece is such a terrific
product that I wanted everybody to know how I feel. ANNIE
