=== Just for the record ===

Music Write 2000 Standard Edition, the $49 version, *DOES*
translate crescendo and diminuendo (the long wedges that can extend over
as many measures as you wish) to MIDI output. Thus a separate loudness
need not be specified individually for each note in the crescendo or
diminuendo.

In the following example, imagine that "<" extends over a half-dozen
measures:

ppp < fff

This increases the MIDI playback's loudness gradually over the
half-dozen measures.

In order to enter the sequence above, I use my mouse to drop "ppp"
at the beginning of the crescendo, then I use my mouse to draw the "<"
over the half-dozen measures, then I use my mouse to drop "fff" at the
end of the crescendo, and finally I pull down a menu and click on
"Convert Dynamics to Volume."
I can also make individual notes "accented" or "tenuto" or
"staccato" and so forth. In this case, I do not need to click "Convert
Dynamics to Volume" because the dynamic is part of the note itself.

This program does have some faults. For example, the staccato is
unusually severe, almost like someone sneaked up behind the musician and
ripped the instrument out of his hands in mid-note. There are no 1/32
notes or shorter. Triplets are miserable to enter because of conflicts
between the program's concept of 'the beat' and a triplet rhythm. Some
of the items are not on the menus where a musician would expect them to
be.
Therefore I'm not trying to tout this program. I just wanted to
set the record straight.

Cheers,
Bill
