I would like to know if anybody has had any luck with converting
SmartScore files directly into anything. It is supposed to work with
Finale, but before I upgrade from Allegro, I would like to know how well
it works.

SmartScore (I have the Piano Edition) scans in music from your scanner
into a limited editor, so you can fix bad recognition. Then you can
play it back as a MIDI file. The problem is that for Finale to read it,
you have to save it as a MIDI file, then read it into Finale as a MIDI,
which wrecks the actual notation that was scanned in (leaves the MIDI
interpretation, like dotted quarter + 16th for stuff that is swung, for
example). The newest version of both these programs is supposed to let
you save the scanned version in a format that Finale can read directly.

Any insight would be great,

Dave Sandusky
