Another $50(US) program that you can buy in computer stores is
Voyetra's Music Write 2000 Standard Edition. There is a $125 upgrade
if you want the Professional Edition.
The Standard Edition has a limited amount of translation from
markings & expressions to MIDI output (including the simple
articulations and a trill, but not grace notes). It does not allow
1/32 or smaller notes. Entering triplets from the keyboard or mouse is
a major hassle. It will accept MIDI input, but I haven't tried this
yet. It allows 8 staves, each with its own instrument and/or loudness
and a few other parameters.
Using this program is _not_ intuitive IMO, but I've never used any
other music program and therefore I can't offer a valid comparison.
Sheet music encodes a lot of information, and perhaps none of the
programs allow all of it to be entered in an 'intuitive' way? I had to
spend several weeks before I could sit down at the keyboard and enter
the notes and approximations of the dynamics that I wanted.

I don't know what extra goodies come with the Professional Edition.

Cheers,
Bill
