<<<I've tried to avoid this because I don't enjoy messing with reeds
-- easier to trash them -- but I need to buy a reed trimmer. I
remember that some of you have had bad results with a particular brand
of trimmer. Is the Cordier ($25 mail order) the 'plenty good for the
average Joe' brand?>>>

My advice would be to never buy a reed clipper by mail order. The reason?
Of the expensive brands of clippers, some work well and some do not. Of the
cheaper brands, the same is true. The only way to find out which is which
is to try them. So, the best reed clipper is the cheapest one which will do
the job properly. Take a couple of old reeds to your local music store, and
ask to try some reed clippers. Find one which works well, and you have
solved the problem, and saved yourself some money.
