I didn't realize you had anything other than a "standard" Buffet, Selmer,
LeBlanc, etc. Your ring sounds like it's heavier than the ones on stock
French/American clarinets, but I don't think in any case that they're
"clamped" on - they're pushed onto the end of the socket, or at least that's
what I've always thought. The ones I've seen seem like the same metal as the
keys ("nickel silver", "German" silver, etc.) - certainly not aluminum.

I've never seen one with dimples (I'll pass up the opening for an election
wise-crack) - in fact, if the rings are initially mounted the way I thought
they were, the dimples would complicate the process of actually sliding them
over the end of the socket. I've never seen a Howarth clarinet, though.
There are probably a number of construction differences between it and the
instruments I'm used to. You're probably right - the best advice you'd get
about this is from Howarth.
