Donna I have that book and I have been reading it. Not much sense school
started up again. The first couple of chapters have helped me so I am sure
the whole book is worth reading. One of my problems is focusing or
concentration. This flaw plagued me as an undergraduate and it was hard for
me to concentrate and get through an etude or anything in a lesson. It was
nerves and thinking about to many things at once. But recently I have
learned to control thoughts during playing, good and bad ones. I say good
and bad because the book brought out that even thoughts that congratulate
your playing while you are playing can distract you. And of course thinking
about a mistake when you are measures past it can break you concentration. I
cant remember the exact way the author put it but he likened performance to
a formula. P@-----.
So if you don't have that extra garbage going around in your head then your
performance is going to be equal to your potential. And potential differs
with everyone and also based on how you have prepared yourself to play a
certain piece. But yes I think the book is worth buying. It helped me become
a stronger player after reading two chapters.
