I'm a little confused by the above, I'm embarrassed to say. Tom, are
you saying that the Master's and Doctoral players -- the ones who had
"a pretty sound, solid technique, above average articulation, and gen-
eral musicality" were "really boring"? Were these the ones who didn't
have the basics down and didn't deserve to be hired?
