Most of my experience with big names in the music world involves drummers.
I have seen clinics by the following;

Ed Shaughnessy (from the tonight show)
David Garibaldi (from Tower of Power)
Roy Burns (Big Band drummer and Clinician)
Joe Morello (Drummer with Dave Brubeck. Known for "Take Five")
Dennis Chambers. (Jazz and Fusion Drummer)

Every one of them are outstanding players. Out of all of them I was only
disappointed with Dennis Chambers. Joe Morello and Roy Burns were by far
the most informative and influential. All of them, except for Dennis
Chambers, was able to pass on both technical and musical information that
I could take home and use. With Dennis Chambers, I learned that he
hasn't practiced since he was 19 and he can't read music. Other than that
I now know that he uses Pearl Drums, Evans heads, and Zildian Drum Sticks.
Information that is useless to anybody but idol worshippers. Not
withstanding the lack of information, it was one of the greatest gymnastic
displays that I have ever seen. He definitely had the art of "soft",
"LOUD", "LOUD", "soft" mastered.

In the Clarinet World I have seen fewer "Big Names" that are known by
everybody on the list, but I have seen many great players who are highly
respected. I have seen Larry Combs and found him to be extremely
informative and helpful. I have also seen Laura Ardan and Ted Gurch of
the Atlanta Symphony and found that they were outstanding in there ability
to convey useful information about the Clarinet.

Overall, I have found that the Great Players are able to convey useful
information to people like me, who are lower down in the food chain.

In the experience of the players on this list, what was your experience
with teachers at an advanced level? I mean the "great names" in this
business, whether or not you wish to name them. Code is acceptable:-).

Enough from me.
