It one thing to have the facts at ones finger tips
and quite another to interpret them correctly
and bring one's researches to a meaningful
and uncontroversial conclusion. It is rewarding
not be on the loosing side once in a while.

No. I'm sorry I don't have this. I am sure Donna is right.
There are articles in 'The Clarinet' by Gigloitti and Philip Muncy
in Vol 24/1 pages 44 -53 including a photograph with Shostakovich
and mention of Symphony No 1 and the Cello Concerto.

I am now looking for a recording of George Rochberg's Clarinet Concerto
"26 minutes continuous playing" "very demanding ... but playable"

William Wright asked about the Clarinet in Shostakovitch No. 4 on 02 January

I suppose this question is mostly to Michael Bryant, but does
anyone know (or can anyone conjecture) who played the clarinet solo in
the February 17, 1963 recording by Philadelphia Orchestra (Eugene
Ormandy, Town Hall) on Sony SB2K 62-409?
I doubt I would ever sell my soul to the devil in exchange for
anything, but to be able to play like that......

Thank you,
Bill
