To Tony W.:

When I was trading emails with Mark's email program, called
"ezmim", I found that my ISP's "delivery time" (the clock starts _after_
Mark's machine reports that it has put the email onto the net) varies
dramatically with the message's length.
'Delivery' for the longest messages was 48-72 hours!!! Short
messages arrived in a few seconds.
Clearly my ISP (WebTV) postpones the long messages until some
'deadline' forces it either to deliver or to report a 'failure'.

Cheers,
Bill
