The community band I play in here could use a couple of more clarinets,
especially a couple of some quality. We have one or two first-part
capables, and a lot of thirds! I'd be playing over there, too, but I am
currently holding down the first alto sax chair. I also play clarinet in a
paid summer band, which has a set compliment of 12 clarinets, plus a bass
or two. We usually have all chairs filled, with a couple of subs
available. A number of the regular players are college music students.

Another band I used to play in had three clarinets out of a total of about
25 players. There again, I was playing sax -- in fact, I was the sax
SECTION for a while, switching from alto to tenor depending on the piece
and whether we had a euphonium player that night! Shortages of saxophones
in community bands, though, is still rare in my experience.
