So given all of this, how does everyone suggest introducing young
children (or any children) to a musical instrument. How do you keep
their interest?
Certainly one important thing is to have playable music (for a kid)
laying around the house in their instrument. I am still grumping about
the school system where one of my grandkids attends. The school
*_requires*_ that every child purchase an instrument and join band, but
they do not allow kids to take music home (photocopied or otherwise).
The last time I visited them, I brought my clarinet and I asked "What
shall we play?" The answer was, "I dunno, g'pa. Do you have any
music with you? They don't let us bring any home."
My daughter, on the other hand, plays some of mine just because
it's lying on the table.
