Yes, dipping 1/2" of the tip for one second into boiling water
softens a Legere 1/4-1/2 of a strength initially, but then it recovers a
bit during the next 24 hours.
Leaving it in for 2 seconds softens it a _full_ 1/2 of a strength
initially (it felt like 3/4-strength of a strength to me); and at least
1/2 of a strength remains after 24 hours.
People who have tried this (including myself) report that tone is
not affected, and apparently Mr, Legere agrees.
