Bill-

G.I. Bill benefits are the same for all services. However, the Army has
bonuses for persons in selected specialties. Theses
would be similar to the reenlistment bonuses offered by the Air Force, etc.
to retain persons with certain skills.

I may be mistaken, but when I was in the Air Force, G. I. Bill benefits
were exactly the same for ALL services, and I believe they MUST be by law.
You may be suffering from some hyperbolic selling by your Army
recruiter! Of course, the paratrooper thing is strictly Army.

I once had the pleasure of sitting in with an Army band while I was on a
10-week temporary assignment in Panama. That band had only THREE
clarinetists. I got my chance, sightreading in an outdoor concert, because
one of THEM was in the hospital (I had originally gone just to HEAR the
concert, but volunteered my services when I saw how shorthanded they
were). According to those guys, there is a chronic shortage of reed
players in military bands. I suspect it is in part because in school bands
these days, clarinet is seen as a predominantly FEMALE thing (just
reporting, not agreeing with this idea), and there are relatively fewer
females in the service.
