I understand where you're coming from on the G.I. Bill, but if I go on what
the individual recruiters say once they find out my dad is a retired Chief
Warrant Officer 4, they kinda cut the crap and tell me the "truth" cuz they
don't want him to discredit them I guess. But the forces usually do have a
shortage of reeds. Right now especially in clarinets. and yes, the "Female
instrument" thing is going on at my highschool too. I'm the only guy
clarinetist and I've gotten so much flak for it, but I've made first chair
in the top band for the past three years, and they've since knocked it off.
But yes, the Army is the only force that has paratrooping. I guess you could
call it a 2nd generation paratrooper in the family would be awesome. To my
dad and I at least. My mom isn't too hot about the idea. But I'm really
looking for the experience and the money for college later on. but the
G.I.Bill I was told about by the army recruiters was 20,000 for 2 years,
40,000 for 4 years, and 50,000 for 5 years. And the 100 dollars out of your
pay the first 12 months too. but for the Marines it's substantially less.
That and Basic for them is hell on earth and I've researched it and I could
not endure the stuff they go through, just to play music... The Army Basic
is about the middle of the road for Basic training, difficulty wise that is.
But thanks everyone for all the great input!
