Dan-

For military band auditions, contact the band at which you are going to
audition (or ask your recruiter for a list of the bands, or check the web)
and ask to speak to
the band's principal clarinetist or auditions coordinator. They can best
tell you what to prepare. As far as college/university auditions go,
contact the music school
(or department) and ask for the audition requirements.

Usual audition repertoire for college/university auditions most often
include the usual standard repertoire: Mozart Concerto, Brahms Sonatas,
Hindemith, Poulenc,
Weber Concertino or Concertos, Stravinsky, Debussy, etc. While I have not
played the Ferguson, I am familiar with it, and it might make a good second
selection.

Subject: [kl] audition pieces.

I'm a High school student about to audtion for the ARMY field bands and
for some college music scholarships and was wondering if anyone had any
names of good audition pieces. Right now my tutor has me working on Four
Pieces by Ferguson. Some clarinetists I've talked to don't know of that
piece, but some of you might. But I was also looking for some other pieces
to use, because some auditions call for two different styles. And also if
anyone out there has any tips for doing an actual audition, like maybe
protocol in the audition, whether or not to talk to the "ajudicators," so to
speak, and so on. Any help would be appreciated.
