Klarinet Archive - Posting 001271.txt from 2000/12

A bit of research seems to point to AOL 6.0 not being able to send
non-HTML'ized version of messages. It sends both a plain text and an HTML
version. Already it is hoped that "version 6.01" will remedy the situation!

Allowing this sort of thing on a mailing list is just too dangerous; it
would allow someone to take advantage of vulnerabilities in "rich content"
messages and propagate all sorts of things to hundreds if not thousands of
people at a time. The "Clair" mailing list just had one of the AOL
multipart/alternative messages pop throiugh (the plain text / HTML version
referred to above) and I had to up the filtering policy to reject any HTML
encoded messages.

I don't know enough about AOL to answer the question of whether an
alternative email client can be used. Perhaps using hotmail, yahoo or one of
the other free email services could be an alternative for you if you can't
use a different email client.

Sorry for the inconvenience,
Mark C.
