Dear Wendy,
You have made a very good point! There are two amazing female
clarinetists that I know personally, including Dr. Diane Cawein from U.
of Nebraska at Lincoln and Michele Gringas from Miami University in
Oxford, Ohio. Both of these ladies are so hardworking and dedicated that
they would never have time to be involved in any type of debate at
Sneezy. I have one of Michele's Klezmer CD's and she is an impeccable
clarinetist with beautiful musicianshp. She is often busy reviewing CD's
in THE CLARINET among many other projects. Diane Cawein recently got a
Doctorate doing her dissertation on the Opera Fantasy style of Bullini &
Mirco, and somehow managed to rediscover 60 or so clarinet works in the
Verdi Library in Milan. I feel lucky when I hear from either one of
them.
I am sure that there are probably some amazing female clarinetists
here on the Sneezy Klarinet bulletin board. I hope we never get into any
arguments over their qualities, maybe just enjoy their music. ANNIE
