The last dozen or so Vandorens that I looked at were so obviously machine
faced ( Rails you could land a plane on ) as to make them little more that
very expensive blanks. I'm making my own mouthpieces on zinner blanks right
now, and a bunch of Washington pros are playing on them. But, I start all my
student on a Fobes Debut mouthpiece. A 2.5-3 legere works great on them and
the whole set up is under 45 bucks. these mouthpieces a so much better than
the vandorens, and way less expensive. I once played a concert on this rig
with the U>S Army Field band, I left my other mouthpiece in the double case,
And it played really great.
