Subj: [kl] Legere in hot water
Date: Thu, 21 Dec 2000 19:40:08 -0500

Yesterday I decided to dip my Legere reed into boiling water. I
played tthe reed immediately afterwards, and my perception was that it
had softened more than 1/2 of a strength, probably closer to 3/4 of a
strength. I was careful to immerse only 2 cm of the tip for a full 2
seconds.

Twenty-four hours later, it has recovered a noticeable but small
amount of stiffness. It still 'feels' 1/2 of a strength softer to me.

It has the same tone (to my ear) as it did before the dipping.

Cheers,
Bill
