Since I seem to have missed the prelude to this message about Julius Baker,
I can only respond to I can infer about what is being said about him. I
feel compelled to share that I had the privilege of hearing him numerous
times, partly because he taught Paula Robison. At the time, needless to say
many years ago, Paula's sister was my first true love and I spent much time
at the Robison home in Studio City (now, alas, a parking lot). On one
occasion I was sitting 6 feet away from Julie when Jean Pierre Rampal was
visiting. I heard Paula, Julius, and Jean Pierre play together for several
hours. What an incredible experience. At the time I was a clarinet student
of Mitchell Lurie, who wasn't too shabby either (though he wasn't present on
this occasion)!

I also heard Baker play in Carmel Valley, CA where he was woodwind
instructor in residence for a number of summers in their music festival.

I found Baker's lush sound and superb musicianship to be of the highest
level and always enjoyed hearing him play. I have no knowledge of him as a
person, other than exchanging a few words with him in Studio City.
