Wow, Bill. That's one serious oompah-loompah vibe there. Reminds me of a
childhood trauma of mine. When I was litte I had this book called "The
Adventures of Mr. Toad" (Disney) and it totally freaked me out. CREEP-E. I
had a bad flashback about this a few years ago when I was in Disneyland and
walked past Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. uuUhHHGHGshHH...

Speaking of Legere reeds, I own a few, and only one of them fails to play
well. They were especially helpful when I went to England where the weather
is gorgeous all the time (ha); I knew what to expect. Funny thing is,
though, some of my cane reeds were fantastic there and played like shesshen
here in the States. Go fig.

Have you tried breaking them in by dipping them in boiling water for a
second or two? I have heard that this works, but have been too chicken to
try it. I've always relied on fine-grit sandpaper!
