Blutak has something of the consistency of chewing gum. It's much less
adhesive, though. You can use small pieces of it in the four corners of
posters to stick them on the wall; or to make any semipermanent
attachment that doesn't involve large forces.

It's a not entirely ideal substance for doing these adjustments,
actually. You're really better off using wax, which you can run into a
hole off an implement such as a hot screwdriver.

But I've got into the habit of using Blutak (called Hafties in Germany,
don't know about US), because it's so easily removed.

If I borrow a period instrument from Nick Shackleton, say, and want to
adjust the intonation downwards on a particular note, I can put a small
piece of Blutak in the relevant hole, and then shape it (I usually use
the dampened tip of a retracted biro) when it's stuck to the wall of the
tonehole. So when I come to give the instrument back, it's easy to
return the instrument to the condition I got it by just hooking out that
(blue-coloured:-) piece of Blutak.
