Vandoren mouthpieces have a much flatter curve at the tip than the
Vandoren reeds do! It isn't even close, in my experience. If there is

It's very simple, really. The guys who make the reeds don't talk to the guys
that make the mouthpieces. It happens in industry all the time.

Tongue back out of cheek, it really doesn't matter that much. Any mouthpiece
worth its salt has tip and side rails that measure anywhere from 1/2 to a
full millimeter. As long as a portion of the vibrating reeds can vibrate
against this "flat" tip area, the mouthpiece will work.

That's why your "square-tipped" reeds will vibrate, David. I have had much
the same experience.

Way back when, I used to worry about the reed tip curve matching the
mouthpiece tip curve. In my experience as a reed maker and adjuster, and as a
mouthpiece technician, this is one measurement that does not have as critical
an effect as many others.
