No, a serpent is a sort of bass zink (cornetto), with a curvy body, but not
folded back on itself as much as the serpentine bass clarinet, IIRC, and a
cup mouthpiece. In other words, a wooden "brass" instrument with fingerholes.
You can buy a plastic serpent reproduction from Lark in the Morning.
