Subj: [kl] Tip curvature
Date: Sun, 17 Dec 2000 02:54:23 -0500

Tonight I noticed that some brands of reed have slightly different
curves at the tip (where the reed's tip meets the mouthpiece's tip
rail). When the curves don't match, it means that either the central
portion of the reed's tip hangs out beyond the mouthpiece's tip rail, or
the side portions of the reed's tip fall slightly inside of the
mouthpiece's tip rail.
Either way, my tone and ease of breath seem to suffer, and I play
with more of the 'hiss' which I usually associate with my reed not being
positioned properly on my mouthpiece.

I presume there is a reason for the existence of more than one
curve. Would someone be willing to discuss this a bit?

Thank you,
Bill
