Geoffrey Acton

Acton's name was mentioned on this list.
What I know about him is that he took over the supervision of clarinets
at Boosey and Hawkes, upon the retirment of Brian Manton-Myatt.
Acton was a very knowledgeable person. and did much to improve the
clarinets that were made at Edgeware, the home of Boosey and Hawkes.
One of his main innovations was an extra vent to help in emittng an `in
tune' high D#-Eb , three lines above the staff.
The middle Right hand fingering is always flat the way it is now.
This vent was put on the 1010 clarinets and brought the note into tune.

It is interesting that Alexandre Selmer in his "Talk to Clarinetists"
said that the correct fingering for low B-F# and high Eb is the first
finger of the Right hand plus the sliver key. This is the fingering to
use on all occasions, except when one has to play a passage downward in
the Right hand.
Without an actual example it's hard to illustrate.
If, for instance, you have to play a throat G and then low B and back to
throat G again, you would take the B fingering with the first finger of
the Right hand plus the sliver key.
If one continues downward, then one should take the middle finger
fingering.
A bit of a headache but worthwhile knowing and using.
