Thank`s Bill.
I was fairly sure you had <some> brass bands in U.S. Michael Bryant
mentioned two Eb clarinets in the choir arr. of The Hebrides Ov. I only wish
that the brass movement could have discovered <two> Eb soprano cornets years
ago. That would have given it a much better <top end> to counter balance too
much middle and bottom end "woolly padding". I refuse to believe that 2 Eb
cornets are more difficult to keep in tune that 2 Eb clarinets! There would
be no point in writing something for 2 Eb cornets, as the traditional
instrumentation is so strong here, that the bands would refuse to play it. I
thought of writing something for clarinet with brass band accompaniment at
one time, (to try to bring closer together the two (sometimes) conflicting
environments). I`m sure it would work musically, but I think the "die hard"
brassers would not take kindly to woodwind encroaching upon the "holy
ground" of the B.B. practice room (and rehearsal time). Ah well - - - Do
Battle Creek have a web site Bill?
Best,
Tony W.
