I'm just the opposite. I looked at the question, fingered it in my mind,
and wondered what the fuss was about. It has become totally instinctive to
use my alternate Ab/Eb key in situations like those. I guess I'm spoiled.
I know a lot of players who simply can't get used to it, and many have
had it removed from their instruments altogether. And if you don't have
the key at all, then the options are as have already been indicated
(either slide, or do a quick switch from right to left pinky on the
low F, freeing up the right pinky to hit the conventional Ab/Eb key).
