I think if you investigate closely that the majority of this mail comes
to users who are using either Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express
or the alternate (companion copy) in Netscape. I have found the
best IMHO is to use a third party e-mail structure such as
Pegasus. While the other products will "open" your e-mail when
triggered, even without your assistance, Pegasus just displays it
on your screen, showing you the sender and the subject. Although
you will still get "spam" and other junk mail you can quickly scan
the list and delete those you did not request or expect without
opening them. Personally I never accept any messages from
senders I do not know, nor from friends whose anti-virus software
has not scanned any attachment they forward to me.
Do we not live in a strange world that to protect our sanity we must
live behind "firewalls" and an anti-virus structure?
