Hogmanay is New Year's Eve to any Scot [snip of interesting

Thanks, Ian. To keep this on topic about music, the school that
my daughter attended until last year holds a Christmas event each year
in which all the kids and their parents stage a cycle of Christmas and
New Year's mini-ceremonies from around the world. The cycle includes
music (there, on topic!) and mini-dramas and an immense amount of food.
It lasts several hours. One of the Eastern ceremonies includes every
participant receiving some saffron, which is a significant expense, but
someone supplies it each year. But for some reason, Scottish
ceremonies have never been included. I assume this is because our
school district has no Scottish families to explain the traditions.
Anyway, I was uneducated on this score. Thanks again, and happy
holidays.

P.S: (again, to stay on topic!) if any frustrated male clarinetists
out there are wondering why they receive blank looks when they enter a
beauty suppy store and ask for "end papers", I discovered today that
"curler papers" is the name in my part of the country.

Cheers,
Bill
