I have always stood while performing in night clubs or most public
performances. I have been told that Ralph McLane, one of my heroes for
tone production, always sat. Part of his decision to "sit" could have
been because he used the double-lip embochure. I used it too (David
Weber taught me to use it when I was 12) and it caused me a lot of grief
while standing. (I have switched to single-lip embocure 30 years ago). I
never could keep my teeth from hurting my upper lip while standing. I do
believe that I "sit" for all of my performances at church, including my
annual clarinet "recital".
At this point, I can't imagine sitting while playing jazz or pop
music, and I am too lazy to stand while playing a recital. ANNIE
