This is also true for me.
My shoulders and upper torso have a much bigger effect on lung capacity
than sitting or standing.

I tried the full breath while seated, then stand and see if i could
inhale more...
1st time, slight addition (felt like a 'mouthful' of air.)
2nd time, no more.

I practice and play both standing and sitting.
Standing does seem to bring some improvement when I slump, but sitting
properly has little if any disadvantage.

The easiest way i have seen to check for best sitting posture for music
is to be able to stand immediately.
