A related point on the subject of breathing for music...
voice teacher said 'breath the amount of air you need for the phrase'
This was very clarifying. Although using air for long phrase shows up
most clearly when misjudged, too much air for a short phrase also feels
clumsy and can interfere with musical phrasing.
And lately it seems to me *that* is the aspect that is
kept consistent by regular practice.
Finger response stays accurate, as long as i *hear* the passage clearly.
But pacing of breathing, air speed and phrasing gets awkward when i lay
off more than a day or two.
I wonder if this is other's experience?
