I have small hands myself and, as a beginner, have toyed with the idea of
plateau keys. Do they interefere with the sound quality?>>

No, I haven't, partly as there are so few on the market, and they are
expensive.
I know two friends [adults] who use them and are very happy with them. I have
not played the instruments but they certainly sound OK to me.
For beginners we have used the Lyons C clarinet a lot. Very unreliable but
also very useful.
Both friends who use 'plateau' have had finger injuries making playing the
open holes very awkward. I wonder if plateau keys might lead to careless
finger positioning. I do think large strong hands are an advantage to a
clarinet player, but so is precise finger placement, the main reason for
flute makers adopting the open hole system.
