No, I think he's with you. I think he means, 'cellos, pianos,
contrabassoons....

And even if you yourself choose to play while seated, I don't think
you'd want to say that the clarinet is 'an instrument that *can't* be
played in the best possible manner while standing'.

How do you find that your breath control is better when seated?
