For the last 10 years, since I took up clarinet again, I always practiced and
played sitting down, until I started lessons about two months ago with my
current teacher. He insists that I take my lessons while standing and also
practice while standing. He believes that playing while sitting down constricts
one's breathing, and so one should play standing up whenever it's possible to do
so.

I thought that practicing while standing up all the time would be difficult, but
I haven't had any problems adjusting, and in fact I now prefer it. I can
practice that way for a couple of hours at a time without getting tired or
having any pain.
