It means the actual physical manuscript that he wrote, and we're sure
that it is, for whatever reason.

There are various ways in which manuscripts may be authenticated, with
varying degrees of certainty. Signatures can be forged, of course, and
sometimes are.

I think Dan Leeson is looking into all this in depth:-)
