Agreed, but why get Ken Peplowski when you can get the original (Goodman)
reissues easily. I'm sure Peplowski himself (a wonderful player) would agree.
Most things lose in the copying.
Anyway, in the big band league, Artie Shaw (no relation) shows much more
originality in every respect than most others and there are plenty of good
reissues around (best are those from 1938-9, IMO).
Tim.

I think I miswrote when I said that Peplowski was "copying" anybody. He does
have a CD where he plays old Goodman big band charts...but I don't agree that
there is anything lost when Peplowski plays anything, "copying" or not. He
demonstrates jazz-playing integrity in the way he incorporates what has been
done before with his own way of playing in a way I find first-rate. If the
youngster in question would not deal well with those classic albums because
of their lower recording quality (to today's standards), a Ken Peplowski CD
would be a great way to get him hooked on music and clarinet.
