Tony,

I'm happy to do my own thing. And although my scales are a little rusty, I consider myself
knowledgeable enough musically to devise my own exercises* to strengthen my areas of weakness. I
just didn't understand the post. If you start going up a diminished (7th) chord, you'll only ever
get four notes before you're back (an octave from) where you started. I've not seen the Klug book,
so was unaware of the reference. It was a simple question because I didn't understand Stewart's
meaning. You admit yourself that it wasn't clear, so I hardly think that you can deduce from my
question that I am a canonic (is that musical or liturgical?) klarinet subscriber with no mind of my
own.

Ian

*For those interested, one of my favourites is to take a melody (a fairly simple one) and go through
every key either chromatically or modulating by a 4th or 5th until I'm back in the original key. You
get used to playing in all available keys, it helps with quick transposition and (depending on your
choice of melody) can be combined with staccato/legato etc.
