Hi=20

I'm Tanya and this is my first post.

It's interesting that many of you recommend books as part of scale =
learning. I found it really difficult to learn from a book, despite =
years of practise.=20

Finally, (when I was a lot older!) I changed my routine. Firstly, I =
practised saying scales out loud up and down, whenever I could grab =
time- driving, vacuuming etc. Secondly, without a book, I played all =
major scales, arpeggios etc at once in a non-stop cycle (as has been =
suggested), then the minors, instead of trying to learn one at a time. =
It took a while at first, as does anything new, but soon I could go =
through them all smoothly.

I think this way helped me lose my fear of all those accidentals because =
instead of looking at scales as individual entities, they kind of merged =
into one, psychologically manageable body.

The scary thing was, the older I got, the more scales I discovered!

Tanya
