It was a copy of a clarinet by Simiot (Lyons, c. 1800, 8 keys) made by
Daniel Bangham of Cambridge. I had one key added (Bb/F) because
Baermann had a 10-keyed clarinet by Griesling and Schlott (no surviving
examples), and because I needed any help I could get:-)

The mouthpiece was a copy of the original Simiot by Jon Steward, now of
Howarth & Co. and designer of the Howarth clarinet.

Reeds -- I can't remember. I think it was probably a hacked around
Mitchell Lurie 5. But you just try everything, and choose what works in
that field. Nowadays, I start with Vandoren V12 and go on from there.

But I'm open to suggestions!

One of the reasons why Legere reeds don't go on my modern setup is that
after my extended experience of playing old instruments, the standard
B45 setup just doesn't feel like a clarinet to me anymore. So I have a
more 'German' setup, even on a French or English clarinet, and that
makes those reeds stuff and buzz, because they're intended for the
French style mouthpieces. I haven't tried hacking them around, though.

By the way, Howarth are planning to make a different, more German-style
Boehm instrument, so that will be an interesting development if it's
successful.

(OK, I know I said that the clarinet is essentially 'done'. (But it's
more 'done' than computer software is:-))
