I, too, developed asthma as an adult. I took up the clarinet a few years
after that (I had played alto sax for a few years as a child). I went from
being on inhaler and pills to just using the inhaler right before I play --
and sometimes I don't even use it then.
I agree with the part about feeling worse than it is -- for me, a peak flow
of 350-400 is inhaler time. (My mom would love it if she could get hers up
to 300). Since I want to play my clarinet, I am more careful about taking
care of myself than I might be otherwise.

Katie (who needs to practice a piece that has a section with 5# and a line of
notes in the altisammo (sp?) range -- yikes!)
