Hi Shell,
Here's a simple method that seems to help my
students, we call it the "add-on" technique. You start
on the note, and then add one and go back down, then
going up add the next note and back down. Very simple,
but it helps give you time to think about the next note
while burning the finger pattern into your brain.
1, 121, 12321, 1234321, 123454321, etc.
Another method is learning only pieces. Perhaps
only the first 5 of each scale, or even the first 3. It might
help you understand the difference in the "feel" of the
scales.
The last idea is to learn simple songs (even "happy
birthday" is a good one) in the scale you are trying to learn.
It's like learning a formula and then applying it. : )
Don't give up, just have fun, I'm still learning scales
and I've been playing for 30 years! EEK!
