I know we've discussed this business of whether the reed fully closes
before, but I think you have a new wrinkle here. Your description
(speculation?) of how the reed closing for TOO LONG a time might cause the
tone to approach a square wave is most interesting. It would explain the
buzzy, flabby tone produced by too soft a reed, without negating the theory
that the reed does indeed close completely.
