Dear Ms. Mir,

I have played through three pregnancies, one with twins. Ms. Schwaeg has
excellent advice. All I can add is to drink plenty of water. And do not be
alarmed at baby movement. I always found the babies' movements to feel
pleasant. The twins, however, were really, really BIG, so eventully, I had
to stop playing very much just simply because I couldn't breathe anymore.
(They were whoppers: 7lb11oz and 7lb 5 oz respectively at birth; my first
was 10 lb 6oz and the last one wsa 8lb 14 oz)

As for recovery from C sections, I do not see why you could not be playing.
But DO check with your doctor. Absolutely. The first time I had a C
section, with my oldest child, there were no restrictions and I pretty much
felt fine. The second pregnancy (I had to have an emergency C section with
the second twin due to prolapsed cord) I was told not to drive for 30 days,
because sudden braking or other movements could cause ruptures and evidently
the doctor thought there was more of a risk. Every individual is different.
Whatever you do, make sure you do your deep breathing exercises. I suggest
Sandy Adam, if they are to be found. Brass players pass them around as
gospel.

Good luck again, and congratulations. Although I carry on a lot about how
wild my kids are, all of them love music and I think I may have at least
one clarinet player in the bunch.
