OK OK OK. I get your drift.

I use the apostrophe ` when marking up breathing points in wind music. Quite
large ones, so they are easy to spot. Some use a sort of tick, - the
"correct" sign. But I`ve never appreciated that, as <that> is what I use to
denote whether I think my pupil has completed the practise sufficiently to
move on. It could be confused. I think printed music tends to use the
apostrophe ` also.

So - "yous takes a deep breath before yous <plays> anymores."

Bill, It was a year ago that you told us you were up to high D. Only a
couple of days ago you are now trying high E. Could I ask what you are
doing?. You should be on high F by now, (at least). What are you doing with
your teacher? It`s none of my business of course, but I fail to see why it`s
taking a year? Do you have problems with different registers? Do you wear
dentures? Did you file my original mail for high D? Well, for high E you
should not have to change lip or breathing pressures. Your teacher should be
advising you to gradually alter your throat tho` to EEEE for upper notes
from whatever shape you have lower down (clarinet reg.) For high D and E, if
your throat is correct, you will also not require R.H. pinky on Ab/Eb. You
will for F. This throat movement is applied gradually of course. I`m sure
you know that much. You won`t notice it at all when you are more
experienced. It becomes just another natural and unconscious component of
the complete "embouchure". It`s not difficult if you are breathing the air
thru` sufficiently enough to <keep> the reed vibrating, and if you are
supporting the mouthpiece sufficiently inside mouth with a constant and
gentle pushing up with the right hand thumb. Keep the mouthpiece very still
inside mouth. I shouldn`t use anything harder than a 2 1/2 strength reed for
this practise. Don`t BLOW, (like me every full moon) but BREATH. Steam the
kitchen window up on a cold and frosty morning.
My $75 worth, thank you very much. But you`ve got to keep at it, not less
than 5 days a week.
Best,
Tony W.
