There's a "surprise" that no one has mentioned yet, so I'll jump in. In
the second movement, 3rd line from the end, toward the end of the line,
is that surprising interjection of the seven 16th notes, followed by
three eighths and a comma. Then it's "off to the races" with the material
from the beginning of the movement.

I try to encourage my students to play those last three eighths with a
question mark at the end of the phrase - sort of like "whoa, where the
*** did that flurry of notes come from...??" [always remembering the PG
nature of the list ;-)] Then, the response is "Oh, yeah, from the
beginning" and we've made the transition back to the opening type
material. It's a nice bit of writing IMO.

Which will lead me to my favorite diatribe about how Chester has screwed
up their edition of this piece, making it (IMNSHO) unusable for public
performance. I've posted about this before, so I'll only say now that you
can no longer buy a "Stravinsky approved" edition of this piece - Chester
has been edited to death (and the page turns are mangled), International
(which is a pirated plate of the original Chester) has a few of
Stravinsky's indications removed (to avoid copyright infringement
problems?) - What do people buy now?
